Is it important to market yourself as an online teacher?
When you become an Online Teacher and Entrepreneur one of the many realizations that you will have is now you are wearing multiple hats. You are now a boss, teacher, social and digital media marketer, content creator, editor, administrator, and the list goes on. If I look at my skills now from where I was 10 years ago, the old me would be shocked. This is the reality. I don’t want to shock or discourage you, but I want to be 100% REAL. If you think you can’t do it, I am here to tell you that you can. Now, do you need all the fancy equipment and virtual assistant? No, not yet anyway! In short, the best way to do all this is to focus on a few things first, and then evolve to other methods once you have grown.
So, what should you focus on first?
At the bare minimum, you should have an online website telling your clients and potential clients how they can reach you and what services you offer.
Why do I need a website?
You need a website because that is a for sure thing that you OWN. Having a website and an email list will be two of the things that you own in this digital world. You do not own the online teaching platforms that you are using. You do not own Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, or Twitter. Do you read where I am going? If you have your own domain, website, and email list, these are the things that are yours fully. It is worth the investment to have it.
Is it expensive to have your own domain, website, and email list?
Short answer, No. But as you grow, so will your expenses.
How can I tell people about my website and services?
For friends and family, you can make a social media post and announcement asking them to share your new website.
How do I market my website and services to my students? BRANDING. Branding is how you will market your services to your learners and I will tell you how without being “salesy”. You will need to have your name and your website on every single piece of printout and lecture notes that you send out if you are sending your own teaching notes, printouts, syllabus, etc. By having your information on all the documents, you are showcasing your branding and ways to contact you and connect via your website. I promise you, that if your students love your classes, they will be researching ways to work with and or purchase your products.
What website is the best to use?
I highly recommend and work with Squarespace and WordPress. Both are great for beginners to advance users. Squarespace and WordPress are also great for selling your services, ranking for SEO, and blogging.
